    Ultra low volume work

Orsmond Aerial Spray has often fulfilled pest and plague control contracts throughout Africa, for example, the spraying of locusts in South Africa and North Africa, notorious quelea birds in both South Africa and Botswana as well as tsetse fly in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Angola.

Recent ULV Projects include:

TSETSE FLY ERADICATION
In 2001 the company sprayed 7,180 square kilometres for tsetse fly in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The entire operation was carried out at night flying 10 to 15 metres above the canopy and an application rate of only 74 ml per hectare was applied. To date no flies have been caught in the area treated. In September 2002 the company sprayed an area of 8 600 square kilometres and in 2006, an area of 10 000 square kilometres covering Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Angola in order to eradicate tsetse fly. The precision application of pesticide using SATLOC swath guidance and flow control systems has been a major advantage in the success of these operations.

LOCUST CONTROL
Five aircraft departed from South Africa in March 2004 and returned in April 2005. Thirteen months were spent undertaking locust control operations in Morocco, Mauritania, Mali and Gambia. The large and varying aviation operations are conducted by a team of highly trained and experienced pilots hailing from New Zealand, Mozambique, England, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
