About us

Centrally situated in the Eastern Free State, South Africa’s main wheat producing area is the picturesque town of Bethlehem, home to Orsmond Aerial Spray. At the helm is founder, Ret Orsmond an experienced commercial pilot who boasts more than 35 years in agricultural aviation and who has accumulated in excess of 20 000 flying hours.

In 1973 Ret formed Orsmond Aerial Spray utilising a single Piper Pawnee aircraft and from these humble beginnings, Ret built the crop spraying fleet to 35 operational aircraft, making it the largest privately owned fleet of agricultural aircraft in South Africa. Utilising mostly Ayres Turbine Thrush aircraft, it operates throughout Africa, covering all forms of agricultural aviation.

Orsmond Aerial Spray’s head office is situated at the Bethlehem Airfield, South Africa. The small town and the surrounding area is mostly dependant on agriculture, with the principal crops being wheat, maize, beans and potatoes. Competent staff members undertake centralised administration for all divisions of the company at the head office. All aircraft are maintained in large workshop facilities at the Bethlehem Airfield. The company administrative and stores departments manage the procurement of spares that mostly have to be imported.
The company and its employees strive to keep pace with the constant technological advancement in aircraft and aircraft equipment. They do this by initiating and maintaining close personal contact and good working relationships with major manufacturers, suppliers and other companies involved in agricultural and general aviation worldwide, particularly those in the United States of America, Australia, Argentina, and the Czech Republic.
